There are several symptoms that could indicate a dirty or faulty mass air flow sensor (MAF) that may require cleaning or replacement. These symptoms include decreased acceleration or power, poor fuel economy, rough idling or stalling, check engine light turning on, and black smoke coming out of the exhaust. Additionally, if the air filter has been neglected, the MAF may need to be cleaned or replaced.
